FAQs
-
UVA radiation makes up the majority of UV rays that reach the skin. It penetrates deeper than UVB (into the dermis) where it damages collagen and elastin, drives pigmentation, tanning, and uneven tone, and accelerates photoageing. PA++++ is the highest UVA protection rating and is what to look for on a label.
-
UVB radiation is responsible for sunburn and direct DNA damage to skin cells. It is the primary driver of sunburn and plays a significant role in skin cancer risk. SPF measures UVB protection specifically and SPF 50 filters out approximately 98% of UVB rays.
-
Blue light, emitted by screens and the sun, contributes to oxidative stress and pigmentation over time. For anyone spending significant time in front of screens or outdoors, it is worth protecting against. Certain filters (like Tinosorb A2B) can help shield from blue light exposure but more importantly- good antioxidants help neutralize the damaging effects of blue light.
-
Mineral filters (zinc oxide and titanium dioxide) sit on the skin's surface and work by absorbing and scattering UV radiation. They are considered safe because they sit on the surface of the skin mostly. They often leave a white cast, particularly on deeper skin tones. Chemical filters (organic chemical filters to be precise) absorb UV radiation before it can penetrate the skin, much like mineral filters. Newer-generation organic filters can absorb, reflect and scatter UV radiation to deliver superior photoprotection and due to larger molecular sizes they offer this with a safety profile similar to mineral filters. Without the white cast.
-
Older chemical filters like oxybenzone, octinoxate, and avobenzone have raised increasing regulatory concern around systemic absorption and potential endocrine disruption. Newer-generation filters like Tinosorb S, Tinosorb A2B, Uvinul A Plus, and Uvinul T 150 are large-molecule filters designed to remain on the skin's surface without meaningful absorption into the bloodstream. They provide hybrid protection where some of them can not only absorb, but also scatter and reflect radiation. This allows usage in lower quantities to give better protection keeping the chemical load on skin low. They are also more photostable, meaning they don't break down under sun exposure, which older filters like avobenzone are known to do. This makes the protection last longer.
-
New Light uses four newer-generation filters: Uvinul A Plus, Uvinul T 150, Tinosorb A2B, and Tinosorb S. These are large-molecule, photostable filters designed to stay on the skin's surface without meaningful systemic absorption — addressing the concerns now being raised about older-generation filters like oxybenzone and octinoxate.
-
Simply because they pose challenges to consistent sunscreen usage. They do have some specific benefits but we do not believe everybody needs them, and all the time.
Mineral filters like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide no matter how elegantly formulated, will leave a cast and feel heavy if the sunscreen is truly mineral. They also require more oils to be used while formulating which makes them heavier.
It is more important to consistently use a wearable sunscreen, every day.
We chose newer-generation chemical filters that deliver strong, broad-spectrum protection without the white cast, oliliness, or the systemic absorption concerns of older chemical filters making it suitable for daily wear without any excuses. -
No. New Light does not contain oxybenzone, octinoxate, avobenzone, homosalate, octisalate, or octocrylene — the six filters currently under increased regulatory scrutiny for systemic absorption and potential endocrine disruption.
-
Most sunscreens stop at protection. Niacinamide helps regulate pigmentation and supports barrier function, while EGCG (green tea extract) is a potent antioxidant that neutralises free radical damage triggered by UV exposure. New Light doesn't just block damage — it addresses post exposure damage.
-
As the last step in your morning routine, after moisturiser. Apply generously to face, neck, and any other exposed areas.
-
Yes. UVA — the radiation responsible for pigmentation, uneven tone, and premature ageing — penetrates glass. If you sit near a window, you are being exposed. Blue light from screens adds to cumulative oxidative stress over time. Indoor does not mean unprotected.
-
Be generous. A common reason sunscreens underperform is under-application. For optimal protection, apply two full finger-lengths to the face and one more to the neck.
-
Yes. The weightless, natural-skin finish layers well under makeup and skincare without pilling or greasiness.
-
New Light is not formulated for swimming or prolonged water exposure. If you're spending time in water, reapply immediately after and consider a heavier water-resistant oil based sunscreen for aquatic activity specifically.
-
No. New Light was formulated specifically to be white-cast-free — a non-negotiable for Indian skin tones.
-
Yes. The formula is non-comedogenic and has a weightless finish that doesn't feel heavy or greasy — even in humid conditions.
-
Yes. New Light is dermatologically tested, hypoallergenic, and non-irritating.
-
Yes. Skin doesn't know genders. UV damage doesn't discriminate either.
-
New Light uses newer-generation filters that do not absorb systemically, making it a more considered choice during pregnancy compared to older-generation chemical filters.
