INGREDIENTS SPOTLIGHT

Why Our Longevity Line-Up Does Not Include a NAD+ Booster. Yet.

The main reason our longevity line-up does not currently include a NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) booster is simple: scientific evidence today shows that restoring skin’s NAD+ levels is best achieved by targeting molecular causes of NAD+ depletion primarily through proven ingredients like advanced retinoids (such as hydroxypinacolone retinoate or HPR) rather than relying on unproven topical NAD+ creams.

NAD+: The Cell's Battery Currency

NAD+ drives cellular energy, DNA repair, and the activation of sirtuins, key proteins linked to longevity and skin resilience. NAD+ levels steadily decline as we age, and environmental stressors such as UV exposure, pollution, and chronic inflammation accelerate that depletion. Without sufficient NAD+, cells lose their ability to repair damage and maintain optimal function, resulting in visible signs of aging like dullness, loss of firmness, and wrinkles.

Retinoids and NAD+ Dynamics

Effective Retinoids, including HPR, don’t just treat surface-level aging. They influence deep molecular processes, directly countering photo-damage (the single biggest cause of NAD+ loss in skin) by boosting cell turnover and collagen synthesis. This action reduces the excessive strain on NAD+ reserves caused by constant repair demands.

Further, retinoids activate sirtuin pathways, which depend on NAD+ for proper function. This activation supports mitochondrial health, skin barrier repair, and antioxidant responses, meaning retinoids help sustain NAD+ production from within, supporting cellular energy cycles and long-term skin vitality.

Why We Chose HPR Retinoid

Hydroxypinacolone retinoate (HPR) is a next-generation retinoid ester that binds directly to retinoic acid receptors, skipping the multi-step metabolism required by traditional retinol and retinaldehyde. This allows HPR to deliver strong anti-aging effects, accelerating cell renewal, stimulating collagen production, and improving elasticity while causing much less irritation than prescription retinoids.

Because HPR is both highly effective and gentle, it fits seamlessly into a longevity regimen focused on cellular repair and barrier health, a direct intersection with NAD+ biology, minus the pitfalls of topical NAD+ itself.

The Science of Topical NAD+ Boosters

Despite its biological significance, topical NAD+ faces major challenges:

  • Stability: NAD+ is fragile, degrading rapidly in the presence of light, air, and heat, making it difficult to formulate into creams that retain their potency through manufacture, storage, and use.
  • Absorption: The skin barrier blocks large, charged molecules like NAD+, meaning effective delivery into deeper living layers is scientifically unproven so far. Most products use precursor molecules (like niacinamide, NMN, or NR), but these have better systemic rather than topical bioavailability.
  • Systemic Needs: NAD+ depletion is a body-wide issue, affecting tissues from brain to muscle. Oral or IV supplementation delivers broader benefits that topical application cannot match; indeed, NAD+ supplements and IV therapies are popular for whole-body vitality, but are not FDA-approved for any specific disease indication so far.

Founder’s Perspective

As a brand, we follow what’s proven. I have taken NAD+ precursors for few years now (as supplements), seeing benefits in cognitive performance and energy. I followed the science and research there. Yet, for skincare, I need to know topical application can have an impact: ingredients must be shown to meaningfully benefit skin, not just body-wide health, before they’re launched. Until robust clinical evidence shows that topical NAD+ can be stabilized, absorbed and metabolized to truly restore skin resilience with visible results, our longevity line will rely on proven strategies, retinoids and synergistic molecules to promote youthful skin.

The Bigger Picture: Skin Longevity Strategy

Real longevity isn’t about chasing trendy molecules. Instead, skin health is protected by orchestrating multiple cellular processes:

  • Repair: Retinoids drive DNA repair and collagen remodeling, reducing photo-damage that drains NAD+ reserves.
  • Resilience: Antioxidants counteract oxidative stress, which is another major NAD+ drain.
  • Regeneration: Ceramides and peptides bolster the skin barrier and support healthy cell communication.
  • Systemic Support: Lifestyle- nutrition, sleep, and NAD+ precursor supplements, keep NAD+ cycling more effectively throughout the body.

Our longevity series is built on this multi-layered science, with HPR retinoid as the backbone, because it tackles root causes of NAD+ depletion and supports sirtuin activation that helps regenerate NAD+ in living skin cells.

Emerging Science and Future Trends

The landscape of aging research moves quickly. We’re closely watching:

  • Advances in topical NAD+ delivery (like nanoparticle carriers or stabilized NAD+ precursors).
  • Synergistic formulas pairing NAD+ boosters with retinoids, peptides, and antioxidants.
  • Clinical data showing real, visible improvements in skin longevity (not just molecular markers) with NAD+ lotions or serums.

When the evidence catches up, we’ll be ready to include NAD+ boosters, but only when science confirms they work as claimed.

Why “Yet” Matters

This is a scientific pause, not a categorical “no.” By sticking with ingredients that address both NAD+ depletion (like HPR and other Retinoids) and systemic longevity pathways (like NAD+ supplement precursors), we serve customers with what works today and remain ready for tomorrow’s breakthrough.

Patience in longevity isn’t just prudent, it’s powerful. Our commitment is to evolve as the science evolves, so our line-up always represents the best of proven skin health, not the latest trend.
